Discover the Your Secret to Being “Green”

Updated: Jul 27, 2018

Much of the “green movement” is focused on practical solutions. This is crucial to decreasing negative impacts on your ecology, and creating a positive impact on your community.

But there is a deeper secret of being “green” and it starts with opening your heart. It leads to a reunion with the Spirit.

Our heart is our portal to our deepest connection to ourselves, our people and our places. Our heart shows us out truest service to our neighbors and our descendants.

And opening out heart empowers us to connect with those we perceive as enemies.

Colonial views would have us see this act of opening our hearts as vulnerable and fool hardy. Especially with such a history of hate, lies and exploitation in what is known as the Americas.

But that is another deceitful half-truth. It keeps us in the aggressor-victim cycles that serve the power hungry and manipulative. For all the evil, there was and is so much love and bravery. I see it everyday…

Green is the color of the heart energy (chakra) in the Yogic tradition. The heart chakra is where your physical, mental and spiritual energies are integrated.

The green heart chakra is where our arms intersect with the power of the Earth from our feet and the sky from our head.

From the center of your being, you can intuitively understand your unique service to others (represented by our arms). This is the secret meaning of the Cross and the Christ upon it.

Opening your heart allows you to perceive you body’s connection to the Earth. It grants you access to an ancient, immense wisdom of billions of years. You are an intersection of many silks in the Web of Life.

This deep connection is the source of your power and drive in life. It provides a context for your purpose and growth. It is our spiritual connection to nature, where we gain the ability to become fully human.

If your heart chakra is open it allows you to give and receive balanced love, and helps you to transform negativity into compassion and acceptance.

Opening your heart gives you courage to share your suffering. It allows you to reach out when anger or fear would hold you back… It shows you how to forgive and integrate.

Share your heart with those who need to see and hear it. These are the very people it is hardest to share it with. Building a bridge is much harder that tearing one down.

With all the negativity in the world, it’s hard not to reflect it back out on to others unconsciously. Compassion allows you to feel another’s agony and not let it crush you.

That is why it is so important to practice compassion while standing in what you have come to know as truth. But I am not talking about the truth that was taught to you by someone else.

This is truth that you have come to know through your powerful heart connection with the Earth. Through love and acceptance.

Ask for help to build that bridge. What we stand to lose is one another. Because there is only in or out. Up and down is an illusion of gravity that all religions and class systems use to their advantage.

A Model of Society that Mimics Ecology: A Resilient Web of Life

The model mainstream society uses is a pyramid. A few have amassed power and resources “up” the pyramid, and use these to continue the illusion that they are within their rights.

They are “above” the masses, and communication about priorities can usually goes “down.” The flow of change goes “up” when there is a “movement," and the many are communicating as one.

In reality, there is no “up” or “down,” since we are either part of the Earth or we are in space. You are in or out of the web of life, and if you act without regard to life than you are prioritizing death.

To capture the opportunity of life, you can use a web as the model of society’s resource and power distribution. Within the web, there are many strands that resources and power can flow across freely to where they are needed.

Since you are represented by the intersection of strands, you are simply unable to amass too many resources or power because your fellows will not hold you.

You must send out your own strand in service to others to create more connections. This is how true power is created, not stolen. Reach out, no matter who they are, or where they are.

Give what you can. Take only what you need. Despite differences in belief we all live on Planet Earth.

This is how to imagine and weave a Resilient Web of Life. Are you a part of the web?

The Only Way to Weave Your Own Web Strand is to Open Your Heart

This Resilient Web of Life is the collective dream catcher of humanity. What kind of dream do you want to dream? What kind of dream do you want for your children?

There are many different ways to learn to open your heart to perceive your dream.

This is a transcendent experience where you can ask spirit for guidance about what you can offer to the world.

Many indigenous traditions teach why and how to create these experiences. Hank Wesselman covers in his book, The Bowl of Light, the ancient Hawaiian perspective on what he calls “direct revelation.”

If you are in love with someone, you can touch transcendence through a sexual experience with that person. Many traditions utilize physical suffering, through fasting, fatigue, and pain.

Meditation is another way to permanently create space in your being for accessing spirit. By training the ego to quiet and listen, you can hear the contemplation of your soul.

Dr. Wesselman wrote a number of books, including Awakening to the Spirit World, co-authored by Sandra Ingerman. It shows another way to enter the dream world and commune with spirit...

By dancing or singing you can open the heart energy. These are coupled with a fast beat on a drum or rattle, helping you to enter into relation with spirit.

All of these actions help open the heart. Most are physically activating it, making it pump harder. It helps when you breath into your heart chakra and sending energy and intention.

This is a way to develop a meaningful connection with all of life. This is what you can feel is missing, and creates greed as people try to fill the hole with material wealth.

The “Transfiguration” meditation on page 170 of Awakening to the Spirit World showed me that the seed of light from Spirit is seated in my heart chakra.

I saw it shining out from the center of my chest, and was enveloped by my own love and Spirit’s love. They are one in the same. It was extraordinarily powerful and I am so thankful for it.

I express deep gratitude for the wisdom passed down in these books, and for the other traditions I have taken part in.

And I am utterly grateful for the indigenous wisdom keepers sharing their own revelations. Even with those that live in privilege due to the genocide or enslavement of their peoples.

I cannot think of a more graceful example of opening your heart. May the Green of the Heart color your life.
